Roosevelt 67, Garfield 47--Day or night, the Roughriders were too much for the Bulldogs in the Southeastern Conference game at Roosevelt.
Roosevelt requested the afternoon game to be moved to the evening to accommodate cable television and attract a larger crowd. But Garfield Coach Coleen Ota refused, citing no desire to extend a favor for the Bulldogs’ longtime arch-rivals.
Roosevelt led from the start, scoring the first 10 points and limiting Garfield to one field goal in the first five minutes of the second quarter to open a 38-13 lead.
Zenobia Tyson-Hunt had 16 points for Roosevelt, which has not lost to Garfield in more than six years. Teammates Denise Caudillo and Leona Jacobs scored 15 and 12 points respectively.
Deana Duran led Garfield with 26 points, including 23 of the Bulldogs’ first 34 points.
