Increase in Overseas Investment Is OKd: The government said it approved $1.6 billion in overseas investments by the country’s companies in 1993, an 87% increase over 1992. The figure excludes China, the largest recipient of Taiwan overseas investment last year, where approved investment more than quadrupled to $1.14 billion from $246.9 million, according to the Investment Commission. Taiwan companies are required to either report overseas investments or, for larger projects, obtain government approval in advance.
