Simi Valley police found a homemade pipe bomb in a quiet neighborhood over the weekend and called experts from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad to defused it.
Police were called to the 3100 block of Fitzgerald Road about 4 p.m. Saturday. Investigators were unable to say Sunday exactly where the bomb was located or who reported it.
According to a statement released by the bomb squad, the explosive was removed from the house and taken to a bomb bunker, where it was found to be live and was defused.
No one working Sunday at the Simi Valley Police Department or the East County sheriff’s station could provide any further details, although both agencies said the incident was still under investigation.
