SANTA MONICA : Quake Damage Forces Pharmacy to Move
- Share via
For 50 years, three generations of the Litvak family have run the Santa Monica Homeopathic Drug Co. out of the same narrow storefront on 4th Street.
But the Jan. 17 earthquake damaged the building so severely that it will be under repair for up to six months. So the Litvaks, their shelves overcrowded with doses of animal, vegetable and mineral substances even before the quake, have moved.
“We’ve really outgrown the spot, and earthquake repairs made (the move) necessary,” said Bob Litvak. His parents, Norman and Mary, both 82, own the pharmacy, one of the nation’s oldest and busiest specializing in homeopathic remedies.
The new store at 629 Broadway opened Wednesday.
