Frolicking by Bite of the Moon

A warm summer night on a boat under a full moon might be romantic for some. But those planning trips to three Orange County lakes on Saturday have their hearts set on a date with ugly fish with whiskers.
It’s catfish season and Irvine, Corona and Santa Ana River lakes will celebrate the full moon by re-opening from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Late nights are prime time for catfish.
Limits of channel catfish at all three lakes are common, with Irvine having the biggest fish. Alvin Kinberg of Bellflower pulled in the biggest of the week, a 43-pound 1-ounce lunker that he weighed and released.
