‘Picket Fences’ Deserves a Writing Nod

From its Emmy nominations, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences sent a message that there was not one drama series deserving recognition in the writing category other than “NYPD Blue” (“Emmys Take On a ‘Blue’ Shade,” July 22). That does not bode well for the future of commercial television.
Congratulations to the producers, writers, cast and crew of “NYPD Blue” on their record 26 Emmy nominations. However, in writing, there is a far more deserving drama series that was sorely overlooked: “Picket Fences.”
Arguably one of the most topical and thought-provoking dramatic series in television history, each episode of “Picket Fences” challenges viewers by presenting real-life ethical dilemmas and issues while also provoking smiles, tears and laughs.
