Marymount College has a second chance to acquire a vacant research facility owned by Northrop Grumman Corp. here.
Northrop spokesman Jim Hart confirmed Tuesday that the 34.4 acres on Crest Road, which has been vacant since 1991, again is up for sale.
Marymount offered to buy the site for between $14.5 million and $15 million in June, but was outbid by an unidentified spa company, which offered about $17 million. That deal, however, apparently has fallen through.
Marymount is a two-year liberal arts college with 750 students that sits on about 26 acres in Rancho Palos Verdes.
Jim Reeves, Marymount’s dean of administration, said the Northrop facility would allow the college to offer student housing on campus. The university now houses students in San Pedro.
