Firefighters extinguished a carport blaze Wednesday before wind-borne embers could ignite a nearby apartment complex, authorities said.
An 8-year-old boy and a 21-year-old woman suffered smoke inhalation and were treated at the scene.
The fire is “suspicious in origin and under investigation,” according to Battalion Chief Kent Mastain.
Anaheim firefighters were aided by several units from the Orange County Fire Department at the blaze in the 1300 block of Fashion Lane at 2:45 p.m. Damage was estimated at $75,000 to the structure and $30,000 to the contents.
“We were lucky we got (hoses) onto the apartment roof to put out the embers,” Mastain said.
