Ex-Mine Official Is Convicted in Coal Theft

WHEELING, W. Va. — A former mine superintendent has been convicted of helping steal more than 29,000 tons of coal.
A federal jury Tuesday found Michael Toth guilty of 13 counts of mail fraud and one count each of conspiracy, wire fraud, money laundering, witness tampering and interstate transportation of stolen property.
Prosecutors said Toth made more than $64,000 in the theft. He faces up to 115 years in prison and a $4.8-million fine. Three others have pleaded guilty in the scheme.
