Police identified the body of a man found near the Costa Mesa Freeway on Thursday as a 45-year-old transient.
The man, whose name has not been released, was found by a Caltrans worker just north of 17th Street, behind a cafe.
Authorities estimated he had been dead for two to three days, and said they believed his death was drug-related.
“We have had several contacts with him as a known IV drug abuser,” said Tustin Police Sgt. Jeff Beeler, “and it appears he still had a ‘spike’ in his hand” when the body was found.
