SIMI VALLEY : Anti-Pollution Signs Painted on Drains
- Share via
Simi Valley city workers have begun painting messages on the city’s 1,200 storm drains to try to stop illegal dumping.
Anything dumped into the storm drains and gutters eventually will run into the sensitive Arroyo Simi, officials said.
The message “Don’t Dump--Drains to Arroyo” is to let people know that any used oil, paint or trash poured down these drains will pollute the arroyo and harm the wildlife that depends on it, said Anne Schubert, the city’s pollution source control manager.
It is expected to take at least 18 months to complete the project, which is part of a countywide effort to reduce pollution runoff from city streets.
