Viacom Inc. Reports 4th-Quarter Loss: For the three months ended Dec. 31, the New York media company lost $50.2 million, or 18 cents a share, after preferred dividends. It earned $26.4 million, or 11 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue rose to $2.77 billion from $530.4 million a year earlier. Earnings from continuing operations rose to $306 million from $78 million a year earlier. For the year, Viacom earned $89.6 million, or 7 cents a share, after preferred dividends, down from $171 million, or $1.31 a share, in 1993. The company said charges related to its $17-billion acquisitions of Paramount Communications Inc. and Blockbuster Entertainment Corp. depressed results.
