SALMON OF THE PACIFIC by Adam Lewis (Sasquatch Books: $14.95; 96 pp., illustrated, paperback original). Lewis uses a straightforward text and striking underwater photographs to introduce readers to the five main species of Pacific salmon (Chinook, chum, coho, pink, sockeye). His history of the Fraser River run in British Columbia offers a textbook example of restoring an environmental disaster, but the recent photos only hint at the number of salmon that choked the waterways of the western North America a century ago.
