Four new firefighters who have completed paramedic training have joined the Fire Department, boosting the city’s ability to deal with medical emergencies, according to Fire Chief Vincent F. Bonacker.
During ceremonies this week, Bonacker awarded firefighter badges to John Danciart, 25, John Davis, 24, Terry McGovern, 23, and Grant Noble, 25.
With the four new hires, the Fire Department has 99 officers.
About 75% of calls to fire stations are related to medical emergencies, and the new firefighters will help provide a more efficient service, Bonacker said.
Residents will have a chance to meet the rookie firefighters and other members of the Fire Department at an open house May 13 in six of the city’s seven fire stations.
The open house, part of the observance of Fire Services Day, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
