Hotel Rates

Regarding the article, “Empty Hotel Rooms Open a Niche for Discounters” (Travel Insider, March 5): You are correct that there are many lower rates than the advertised rack rates. In fact, rarely does any person pay the rack rate. Travel agents, such as myself, who belong to consortiums (for bulk buying) offer clients discounted prices on almost every hotel property in the U.S. and many throughout the world. Not all agencies belong to a consortium, but travelers should check this out as a service they would like to receive from a travel agent.
