Valleywide : Warning Issued for Garbage Can Scam
- Share via
Los Angeles city officials are warning residents to be wary of a company that has been misrepresenting city recycling policy in order to sell its services to unsuspecting customers.
The company, which calls itself 4B Marketing, allegedly says that the city will fine people who do not write their addresses on city garbage and yard-trimmings cans, and then offers to mark their cans for them for a fee, said Enrique Teves of the city Bureau of Sanitation.
But the city does not require residents to mark their cans--it merely encourages them to do so to discourage theft and make cans easier to recover if they are lost.
If residents move, the cans--which are city property--must be left at the residents’ former address for the next occupant’s use.
