COSTA MESA — Ninth-ranked University continued to win with stingy defense Friday night, stopping Estancia, 12-0, in a Pacific Coast League game at Orange Coast College.
The Trojans (6-0, 1-0) have given up just 21 points this season and they completely shut down Estancia’s double-wing rushing offense.
Running back Bachy Gonzalez, who had rushed for over 100 yards in seven consecutive games and was seventh in the county with 662 yards, was held to 52 yards by University.
University running back Kelvin Murray broke open a close game with a 90-yard scoring run with 3 minutes 4 seconds left in the second quarter. Murray broke several tackles and then outran the defense down the sideline.
University scored earlier in the second quarter on a one-yard run by Jarrett Mahoney with 6:53 left.
After University’s Faatuiese Roberts recovered an Estancia fumble with 11:50 left in the game, the Trojans kept the ball for the next 7 1/2 minutes.
