COMMUNITY COLLEGE SOCCER ROUNDUP : Rancho Santiago Clinches Second Title in Row

Rancho Santiago clinched its second consecutive Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer title with a 2-1 victory over Irvine Valley Tuesday at Irvine Valley.
The teams played a scoreless first half before Gus Plasencia and David Sanchez scored second-half goals for the Dons (14-1-1, 9-0-1 in conference). Irvine Valley’s Marco Soskic scored late in the second half to end the shutout.
Irvine Valley is 7-6-4, 3-4-2.
In other Orange Empire Conference games:
Cypress 2, Golden West 0--Allam Macis and Nolan Berentis scored first-half goals for host Cypress (7-6-2, 5-3-1). Charger goalie Jeff Gibson made six saves to post his second consecutive shutout.
Golden West is 3-12-3, 0-9-1.
Fullerton 5, Riverside 0--Ben Whieldon scored two goals for host Fullerton (10-5-2, 3-4-1).
Riverside is 3-4-1 in conference.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:
Cypress 1, Fullerton 0--Erin Wright scored in the 23rd minute for host Cypress (15-1-1, 6-1).
Larisa Noriega had 17 saves for Fullerton (10-5-3, 4-3).
Irvine Valley 2, Golden West 1--Maria Nicholl scored a first-half goal then assisted on Lindsey Hayward’s first-half goal for visiting Irvine Valley (8-8, 3-4). Brandi Griffith scored for Golden West (4-9, 0-7).
Orange Coast 3, Rancho Santiago 0--Carrie Martin, Shannon Donegan and Sue Abrams each scored goals on free kicks for visiting Orange Coast (11-1-2, 7-0), which remained two points ahead of second-place Cypress. Last week, Orange Coast defeated Cypress, 2-1, to stop Cypress’ 63-game unbeaten streak.
