FOUNTAIN VALLEY : Volunteers Sought for Various City Panels

The city is looking for volunteers to sit on the following boards, committees and commissions:

* Traffic Committee: assists in the preparation of city traffic reports, hears complaints about traffic matters and makes recommendations to the City Council and staff members about improving traffic conditions. The committee meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the City Council chambers.

* The Housing and Community Development Advisory Board: reviews U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development requirements for block grant programs and makes recommendations to the City Council about future projects. The board meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the City Council chambers.

* The Advisory Committee for the Disabled: works on making city buildings easily accessible for the handicapped and promotes recreation programs for those with disabilities. The committee meets the second Thursday of every other month at 7 p.m. in City Hall.

* The Alcohol and Drug Awareness Committee: advises the City Council on drug-related education programs and law enforcement programs. The committee meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Police Department auditorium.

* The AB939 Environmental Education Team: oversees programs to promote public understanding of waste management policies and issues in Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach. The group meets the third Wednesday each month at 11 a.m. at Rainbow Disposal, 17121 Nichols St., Huntington Beach.

Applicants must be residents of the city and will be interviewed by the City Council. Applications can be picked up in the city clerk’s office, 10200 Slater Ave., Fountain Valley. The deadline for applications is Jan. 6.
