MOSCOW — Olympic medal-winning diver Elena Mirochina was found dead outside her Moscow apartment, police said Friday.
Mirochina, 21, either jumped or was pushed from a window in her fifth-floor apartment on Dec. 18, said a duty officer for Moscow city police.
Her body was found just after 3 a.m., he said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Mirochina’s death has not been reported in Russian news media, and the reason for this was not immediately clear.
Mirochina was the second Russian Olympian to die recently. Last month, two-time figure skating gold medalist Sergei Grinkov died of a heart attack.
Mirochina won the silver medal in platform diving in the 1992 Olympic Games at Barcelona. She placed sixth in the same event in the 1988 Games at Seoul.
In 1991, she won the European Championships at Athens, the FINA World Cup at Winnipeg, Canada, and the European Cup at Sheffield, England.
