Jess S. Hightower, a retired oil worker and longtime Ventura County resident, died Wednesday after a lengthy illness. He was 79.
Hightower was born on Christmas Day in Gainesville, Texas, and moved to Ventura County 52 years ago after working in Oklahoma City, Okla.
He worked in Ventura County for Shell Oil Co. for 34 years, retiring as a foreman in 1975.
He is survived by his wife, Johnie Hightower of Ventura; daughter Ruth O’Bannon of Ventura; two sisters, Anna McLemore and Louise Cox, both of Oklahoma, and a grandson.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura. The Rev. Jim Wells will officiate.
