School Gets Grant for Health Studies

The Moorpark Unified School District has received a $4,800 grant to start a health academy for students who are interested in studying medicine in college.
The grant, from the Ventura County superintendent of schools office, will help the district set up a “school within a school” at Moorpark High, said Board of Education member Clint Harper.
The high school program will serve as a precursor to a similar program at Moorpark College. Both programs will help prepare students for a wide range of medical jobs, Harper said.
Moorpark High School officials anticipate setting up a health academy with classes in science, math, languages and the social sciences, he said.
The program is scheduled to start in the fall.
