Ventura County Easter and Passover Events

The more than 3,000 people expected to gather today in Oxnard’s La Colonia neighborhood for a reenactment of Christ’s crucifixion will launch a weekend packed with Easter and Passover celebrations.
Today’s event, known as the Passion Play, will re-create the judging of Christ by Pontius Pilate, Christ’s march bearing the cross and his crucifixion. It begins at 11:30 a.m. at the corner of Cooper Road and Roosevelt Avenue.
The following are some other activities planned for the weekend throughout Ventura County:
CAMARILLO
Saturday:
Easter musical, “Let All the Heavens Rejoice,” by Camarillo Seventh-day Adventist Church Concert Choir, 3975 E. Las Posas Road. Free performances at 10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. Information: 482-4632.

Today:
Six local Christian high school youth groups will join in an 8-mile walk, in costume, carrying a wooden cross from Channel Islands Christian Fellowship, 1851 Holser Walk, through The Esplanade mall in Oxnard, Main Street in Ventura, to the cross on the hill in Ventura; 8 a.m. Information: 485-0050.

Channel Islands Vineyard will sponsor an Easter celebration at Oxnard State Beach, on Harbor Boulevard between Hollywood Beach and Oxnard Shores. Breakfast will be offered from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m., followed by an Easter egg hunt at 9 a.m. Additional activities will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. Information: 485-0050.
