Council Approves Two Teen Dances

Saying it needs to promote wholesome youth activities, the City Council has approved a Recreation Department request to host two more teen dances at the community center at Central Park.
The dances will be open to all La Palma junior high and high school students.
The high school dance is scheduled for April 20, and the dance for junior high students is planned for May 4.
Ron Kenny, director of Recreation and Community Services, told the council on Tuesday that each dance will cost the city $500 for staff time, refreshments, decorations and a disc jockey.
He said the department has had two successful teen dances since December and expects a large turnout for the next two.
Both dances start at 7:30 p.m. and tickets, which cost $1 to $3.50, may be bought at the door. Students are required to show a student identification card to enter.
