Tom Bradley Released From Rehabilitation Center

Former Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley, who suffered a postoperative stroke April 3, was released from a rehabilitation center and will continue getting speech therapy at home, a spokeswoman said Monday.

“He’s walking unassisted, but will continue to work on his speech on an outpatient basis,” said Mary Ellen Stumfl, a spokeswoman for Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital in Inglewood.

Bradley, who arrived at the center in late April, was released Friday, Stumfl said. She said Bradley’s progress in regaining his speech was slow. His doctors were not immediately available for comment.

Bradley, 78, suffered a heart attack March 20 and was hospitalized for about two weeks before undergoing triple-bypass surgery. Less than 24 hours after the operation, he suffered a stroke that affected his speech and movement on his right side.
