Here’s a quick and creepy trick for your Halloween buffet table: icy hands that bob and float on the surface of your blood-red punch.
They don’t last long, so be sure to add the hands after the guests arrive. The food coloring should be added several times while the hands are melting to keep the effect. It’s sure to give any little trick or treater the chills.
You will need:
1 pair of new rubber gloves, the kind used for dishwashing
Water
Wire twist ties
Clear soda, such as 7-Up, to fill your punch bowl
Red food color
Fill the gloves with water, at least to within 2 inches of the top.
Tightly tie the gloves with the twist ties.
Freeze the gloves, hanging from a rack or lying flat on a flat surface, making sure the fingers aren’t touching.
Pour the soda in the punch bowl and add a few drops of food color
Remove the frozen gloves from the freezer and run warm water over them.
Carefully slide the hands out of the gloves by starting at the fingertips. Be careful not to break the fingers.
Place frozen hands in the punch bowl. Add a few drops of food color to the wrists of the hands.
