Bergeson, Others Back Prop. 208

Supervisor Marian Bergeson, former county Chief Executive Officer William J. Popejoy and other top county figures are scheduled today to formally endorse Proposition 208, a campaign finance reform measure.

Proposition 208 would limit campaign contributions, ban off-year fund-raising, ban transfers between candidates, prohibit lobbyists from making contributions and toughen penalties for violators, according to supporters.

County Clerk-Recorder Gary L. Granville and former assemblyman Gil Ferguson also are scheduled to throw their support behind the proposition during a press conference in Santa Ana this morning.

Proposition 208 is one of two campaign reform measures on the November ballot. The second, Proposition 212, contains different contribution rules.
