SHOW STOPPERS
It was homecoming and the 20th season of football for Orange Lutheran, but the finishing touches for Friday’s ceremonies at Brea-Olinda didn’t go quite as planned.
The stadium’s public address system failed before game time and when officials tried to fire the gun to signal the end of the second quarter, its trigger jammed.
And during halftime ceremonies, several youths oblivious to the occasion swarmed the field with footballs to take part in impromptu pickup games.
AIR BALL
The Edison-Fountain Valley game was delayed about five minutes partly to let the overflow crowd of more than 8,000 find seats. But the game ball also had to arrive.
It finally did via a skydiver dressed and painted in Edison’s colors.
RERUN
Estancia has lost three consecutive games after a 5-0 start this season. Last year, the Eagles lost three in a row after a 4-0 start.
ON THE RECORD
“I’ve been telling them, ‘You’re only as good as your 14th game.’ ”
--Joe Wood, Aliso Niguel coach, on trying to keep his players focused.
