Firefighters Rescue Boy Caught in L.A. River

A boy was rescued from the Los Angeles River by firefighters after he got stuck trying to examine an old bicycle tangled in some debris, a fire spokesman said.
The boy, whose age was unknown, apparently waded into the river when he saw the bicycle, but the force of the water prevented him from climbing out, city fire spokesman Jim Wells said.
A firefighter secured with a rope crossed a stretch of water to get the boy, then both were pulled to safety.
“Once again, this is why we always tell individuals to stay out of the channels,” Wells said. “Even though it’s not raining, there is still runoff from other places.”
