The Ventura County Maritime Museum is looking for volunteers interested in learning how to lead tours and provide other kinds of help at the Channel Islands Harbor facility.
The museum will launch a docent training program starting May 14 and ending July 30. The program will be held each Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the museum, 2731 S. Victoria Ave.
Those who complete the course will be asked to guide tours, staff the reception desk and do research for the museum, which is dedicated to showcasing the county’s maritime history.
The course is conducted by docents and covers local history, starting with the Chumash and early Spanish explorers. The primary focus, however, will be on learning and presenting the museum’s world-class art and model ship collection.
Museum membership is required to take the course and there is a $15 charge for course materials. For more information, call program coordinator Bob Scott at 985-4583.
