1 Killed in Attack on Palm Plantation

Police in the Indonesian town of Deli Serdang shot one man to death after hundreds of villagers attacked the office of a government-owned palm plantation, authorities said. At least nine other rioters were injured in the clash Wednesday, which coincided with looting and unrest at ethnic Chinese-owned food mills in nearby towns. The rioters in Deli Serdang, in northern Sumatra, were protesting the arrest of three villagers in possession of a truckload of fruit allegedly stolen from the plantation, the official Antara news agency said.
