More than 20 teachers recently received a total $17,000 in grants from the Capistrano Unified School District Foundation to pursue innovative classroom projects.
Funding for the 5th annual Grant Incentives for Teachers program was raised in part by the foundation’s Coto de Caza Golf Tournament in March. More than a dozen local businesses also helped sponsor the grants.
Awards included funding for gardening, technology, sports and music activities. Some recipients will use their grants for first-time programs. Teacher Jan Collings of Richard Henry Dana Exceptional Needs Facility received $1,000 to buy a digital camera, said Lynda Thomas, the foundation’s executive director.
“Teachers will use the camera to record activities students do in the day and take pictures of them during physical education programs,” to show their progress, she said.
