Rock Slide Forces Closure of Pacific Coast Highway

A morning slide brought dirt and rocks down onto Pacific Coast Highway, forcing the closure of the road to through traffic Friday.
The 9:01 a.m. slide from bluff tops near the 21400 block of the highway left the area between Las Flores Canyon and Topanga Canyon roads closed, said Margie Tiritilli, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation.
Rocks continued to fall from Las Flores Canyon on Friday afternoon, stalling Caltrans’ efforts to construct a dirt berm designed to contain further sliding.
Residents of the closed area were allowed through after showing proper identification.
Caltrans officials did not have an estimate Friday afternoon of when traffic would be allowed through, but said crews would be working around the clock to reopen the road.
