Entries must be postmarked by May 15 for the Austin, Texas-based Heart of Film Screenplay Competition, established in 1994 to provide a vehicle for new writers to launch their careers.
Feature-length entries will be judged by studios and production companies in two categories: adult-drama and children-family. Winners receive the Heart of Film Bronzed Award, $3,500 cash and air fare and accommodations to attend the ’98 Heart of Film Screenwriters Conference, Oct. 1-4 in Austin.
The scripts for two completed films, Columbia Pictures’ “Excess Baggage,” penned by Max Adams, and Warner Bros.’ “Good-Bye Lover,” written by Ron Peer, were discovered through the competition.
