Canyons Falls Flat in Regional

College of the Canyons, considered a contender for the men’s state golf title, on Monday finished eighth out of nine teams at the Southern California regional at the SCGA Member’s Club in Murrieta and failed to qualify for the state tournament.
Justin Rockey’s 75-73--148 was Canyon’s best effort. The Cougars shot 388-385 for a 53-over-par 773 and finished 49 strokes behind first-place Desert.
HIGH SCHOOL GOLF
Flintridge Prep 189, La Salle 195--Russell Surber, Andy Brisbois and freshman Jeff Osborn helped visiting Flintridge Prep (18-2, 11-1) clinch its third Prep League title in four years.
Surber toured Pasadena’s Eaton Canyon Golf Course in one-under-par 34. Osborn shot 35 and Brisbois fired a 36.
BOYS’ TENNIS
El Camino Real 17 1/2, Granada Hills 11--Bobby Narayan was 4-0 in singles play for the Conquistadores (14-0) in a City Section 4-A Division semifinal match at the Racquet Centre in Studio City.
Narayan, El Camino Real’s No. 3 player, defeated Granada Hills’ Chris Yoo, 6-3; Steve Ishoo, 6-1; Andy Kim, 6-0, and Ali Ghods, 6-1.
The Conquistadores, who will play defending three-time champion Palisades for the 4-A title Friday, were 13-2-1 in singles play.
Deedu Murthy and Matt Weiss won 6-2, 6-3 and 6-1 at No. 1 doubles for the Highlanders (11-3).
Palisades 21 1/2, Taft 8--Taft’s No. 1 doubles team of Arash Shirehjini and Fadi Ghishan took two of three sets from the defending City Section champions in a Division 4-A semifinal match at the Racquet Centre in Studio City.
Farhad Hajimirazee at No. 1 singles and Phillip Kaschell at No. 3 singles each won two of four sets for Taft (10-5).
Hajimirazee and his brother, Fashid, qualified for the City Section individual championships, as did the Shirehjini-Ghishan team.
HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
El Camino Real 8, Granada Hills 0--Cara Blumfield had a three-run double and Christina Enea hit a two-run home run for host El Camino Real (16-2, 9-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference game.
Stephanie Frasco (14-2) allowed two hits and struck out three in four innings, and Ashley Redlin allowed no hits and struck out four.
Jackie Goodchild had three hits and scored twice.
