Corriganville Park Gets Grant for Trails

Corriganville Park, a former movie location that officially opened last week as a destination for nature lovers, hikers and film buffs, has won a state grant to begin refurbishing its network of trails.

The state’s Department of Parks and Recreation awarded the park $21,745 to refurbish a two-mile loop of trails that will connect the area to other popular hiking trails in the area.

The city and park district, which co-own Corriganville Park, will match the grant, bringing the total to $43,490.

Additionally, the city recently awarded the Rancho Simi Trailblazers $2,500 to establish a program to maintain the park’s trail system.

“It’s a real blessing for the park,” said Rick Johnson, an administrator at the district.

Corriganville Park’s grant was one of nine awards totaling $332,000 that the state handed out to districts across California.

State administrators weighed a number of criteria, including the population that is served and the historic and environmental value of the area.

In addition to its history as a backdrop for more than 3,500 films and television programs, Corriganville Park is studded with massive sandstone outcroppings, creeks, caves and canyons.

It is also home to a number of animals including bobcats, owl, deer and mountain lions.
