Master Plan Addresses Sports Field Shortage

Although it’s no secret that more youth fields are needed, a draft of the city’s parks and recreation master plan being released Monday will disclose just how acute the shortage is in the city.
The nine-month study also will list sites where city officials think sports fields should be built. First on the list will be La Paz Park, a five-acre site at La Paz and Aliso Creek roads, public works director Ken Montgomery said.
“The hottest area [in the master plan] is how short we are now and how short we will be in 2015,” Montgomery said.
The draft master plan will take a citywide look at meeting the community’s recreation needs for the next 20 years. Included will be proposals for updating biking and hiking trails, tennis courts and recreation programs.
