Public Speaking Competition

Hello. My name is Lauren Sartore and I am a student at Madrona Elementary School in Thousand Oaks.
You newspaper recently did an article on the Public Speaking Celebration (“Students Have Their Say in Speech Contest,” May 12). My best friend Kim Buckley and I competed in the Speaker’s Choice category. Both of us were very upset that we weren’t even mentioned in a full sentence in this article.
We did the Alaskan earthquake of 1964. Sure, the article said, and I quote, “In other categories, students were news reporters for ‘Good Morning USA,’ announcing live coverage of . . . the 1964 Alaska earthquake.” As you may note, this doesn’t even mention our names.
Please, do anything possible to make our names appear. One suggestion from me is that you simply publish my letter that you are reading now. Please do so.
Your Thousand Oaks honor roll students,
KIM BUCKLEY
