Cities throughout Ventura County will conduct Memorial Day weekend observances and activities.
Camarillo:
* There will be a service, music and a flyover at 11 a.m. Monday at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park. The keynote speaker will be Capt. Diane C. McKinzy of the Air National Guard.
Moorpark:
* The American Legion will conduct services at 10 a.m. Monday at Poindexter Park.
Ojai:
* A master chorale and orchestra performance of Aaron Copland’s music will be held at 4 p.m. today at the Libbey Bowl at Libbey Park.
Oxnard:
* At 10 a.m. Monday at American Legion Post No. 48, Mayor Manuel Lopez will speak during a remembrance program.
Santa Paula:
* At 10:30 a.m. Monday at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery there will be a program to honor Cmdr. Les Maland of VFW Post 2043. A reception will follow at Veterans Memorial Park.
Simi Valley:
* Mayor Greg Stratton will present a proclamation honoring veterans during services at 10 a.m. Monday at Simi Valley Public Cemetery.
Thousand Oaks:
* City officials will dedicate an oak tree, called the Huberth Tree, in memory of Vietnam veterans, 9:30 a.m., Conejo Creek Park. For more details of city events, see the city’s web page at www.ci.thousand-oaks.ca.uf.
Ventura:
* Between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. today and Monday there will be live music, storytelling and other activities at Ventura Harbor Village.
* State Sen. Cathie Wright (R-Simi Valley) will be the keynote speaker at services from 10:45 a.m. to noon Monday at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park.
Westlake Village:
* Services are scheduled at 11 a.m. Monday at the Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park & Mortuary.
