MTI Technology Joins Effort to Develop Storage Products

Anaheim-based MTI Technology Corp. today will announce a partnership with 3Com Corp. and two data storage companies to develop next-generation products that allow businesses to store data from their networks.

The deal is the first move by 3Com into the emerging market that caters to firms with high storage needs, particularly those dealing with large volumes of video and audio files. The deal also gives the relatively small MTI instant credibility in a nascent field that so far lacks both standards and complete product lines. This partnership, which also includes Legato Systems and Data General Corp., hopes to address those needs.

“The entertainment industry is ripe for this,” said Kevin Liebl, vice president of marketing at MTI, whose clients include Paramount, Viacom and Turner.
