Pierce College to Increase 2-Day Course Offerings

Students who want to attend classes Mondays and Wednesdays only may do so when Pierce College starts offering a more flexible schedule on Jan. 11.
Starting in spring semester, the school will offer many daytime classes on those two days, said Pierce College spokeswoman Ina Yates. These three-unit courses, offered by all departments, will meet for an hour and a half twice a week.
Many of these courses now meet for an hour on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Yates said. Other classes meet for 90 minutes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
A 1996 study by the Los Angeles Community College District found that many students prefer to attend classes twice, instead of three days, a week, Yates said. Of 13,000 students at Pierce College, about 75% attend part time.
