Ryan Berleth
Fullerton, Junior; Water Polo/Goalkeeper
More than three decades had passed since Fullerton had beaten Freeway League-rival Sunny Hills in water polo. But Berleth, playing aggressively, made sure that changed when the two tangled last week. He made 14 saves, had three steals and added an assist to help the Indians beat the Lancers, 11-5, in the league opener.

* Trabuco Hills, senior. Led a defensive charge with three sacks in the Mustangs’ 24-7 upset of Fountain Valley.
Augie Escobar/Cross-Country
* Villa Park, junior. Ran the 3.1-mile course in 15 minutes 35 seconds to finish first at the Clovis Invitational.
Andrew Niumata/Football/Running back
* Los Amigos, senior. Rushed for 155 yards and three TDs and caught five passes for 143 yards and a TD in 29-26 victory over Santiago.
