Local Red Cross volunteers were recognized and honored last week during National Volunteer Week.
The Ventura County American Red Cross volunteers help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies, officials said.
The 1,500 county volunteers will be formally honored at an awards ceremony next month at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. A handful of volunteers will receive special awards, including Volunteer of the Year.
Volunteers teach CPR, first aid and baby-sitting skills. Others provide clerical support in Red Cross offices. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer is asked to call 582-8630.
