Powell Scores 34, Century Wins Easily

The last time they played, Century embarrassed El Dorado in a showdown between the Empire League’s best girls’ basketball teams.
Though it wasn’t as bad this time, the story was largely the same as Century’s Aprile Powell scored 34 points to lead the Centurions to a 58-37 victory over visiting El Dorado on Tuesday.
Powell, a 6-2 senior center, scored 20 points in the first half as the Centurions took a 39-16 lead.
Adriana Mendez had 11 points for Century (18-3, 6-0), which virtually assured itself of the league title. In the last four seasons, Century has lost only one game to a team other than El Dorado, and the Golden Hawks haven’t lost to any team other the Century.
Carly Wade scored 15 points for El Dorado (15-7, 4-2), which was plagued by a horrible shooting night in their first meeting, a 50-16 loss.
In other Empire League games:
Cypress 62, Loara 47--Lindsay Weaver made six free throws and a three-pointer in the fourth quarter to help visiting Cypress hold off Loara. Weaver finished with 20 points for the Centurions (13-8, 4-2)
In the Academy League:
Capistrano Valley Christian 89, Orangewood Academy 32--Bethany Thom scored 24 points and Melissa Sands had 19 to lead Capistrano Valley Christian, which took a 42-16 lead at the half.

Downey Calvary Chapel 70, Fairmont 32--Jennifer Glassman scored 16 points as Fairmont (7-9, 2-5) fell well short of Downey Calvary Chapel (11-6, 6-1) and sophomore Victoria Henderson, who scored 31 points.
In the Orange League:
No. 1 Brea Olinda 93, Magnolia 33--Chelsea Trotter had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Kate Ides had 15 points and 14 rebounds for Brea Olinda (18-3, 5-0).
