Slain Star’s Sidekic Under Investigation

Mexican prosecutors are investigating whether a television host’s sidekick was involved in his shooting death last month. Mario Bezares was placed under house arrest after authorities discovered he was planning to leave the country, the Mexico City attorney general’s office said. Bezares denied that he was planning to flee and said he had no involvement in the crime. He had accompanied TV star Francisco “Paco” Stanley to a restaurant just before the June 7 attack. Stanley was gunned down next to the restaurant along a busy Mexico City freeway. His assailants fired at least 26 bullets into his minivan, hitting Stanley seven times. Bezares reportedly hid in the restaurant’s bathroom.
