Just Don’t Get Sick

“Most in Health Poll Satisfied; Concerns Build” [Feb. 6] reported that most Americans are “generally happy with their health insurance coverage.”
However, the poll that led to this conclusion was faulty. It did not indicate the level of satisfaction for healthy persons with no major illness compared with the level of satisfaction for persons requiring care for serious health problems. Nor did the poll indicate the level of satisfaction for persons covered by traditional fee-for-service compared with persons covered by HMOs.
This is another example of polls being used to prove whatever you want to prove.
HMOs are financially attractive because of their low (or absent) premiums. However, when people have asked me for advice, I’ve told them that HMOs are fine as long as you don’t get sick!
