Bringing the Art Back Home

Emory Holmes II’s profile of former LACMA curator Cecil Fergerson (“A Pit Bull in the World of Fine Art,” Feb. 14) brought back to me all the black art shows that I’ve attended through the years and how exciting they seemed.
During my coming-of-age decade, the ‘70s, art was something to be both observed and participated in, and Holmes’ article helped me understand how it all came about. Because of Fergerson’s efforts, it didn’t seem as though that art belonged to someone else--it belonged to me.
