Asian Votes

* Prof. S.B. Woo (interview, Opinion, April 23) may represent a segment of Chinese Americans, but he cannot claim to represent the entire Asian American community. His 80-20 Initiative group consists of mostly Chinese Americans. He plays no leadership role nor even has name recognition in most of the other Asian American communities. How can he then commit Asian American voters to George W. Bush or Al Gore?
He also must understand that most of these Asian communities are fiercely independent. His influence may work with some members of his own ethnic group but not with other Asian groups.
