An 80-year-old Santa Ana man was killed Friday evening while attempting to cross Euclid Street outside a crosswalk.
The accident happened about 6:10 p.m. in the 700 block of South Euclid. The driver, a 39-year-old woman, was not cited.
Authorities were withholding the name of the victim pending family notification.
This marks the seventh pedestrian-involved traffic accident in the city this year. The same number was reported for all of 1999.
Santa Ana has been named as one of the most dangerous places in the state for pedestrians. Over the last two years, the city has launched numerous campaigns to educate residents about pedestrian safety, but accident numbers have remained steady since 1997.
