A group trying to get Mayor John M. Gullixson voted out of office has a little more than a month to collect more than 4,000 signatures it still needs to call a special recall election.
Members of Recall John Gullixson have collected 2,279 signatures as of last week, according to their Web site, https://www.yorbalindarecall.com.
The group began circulating petitions and collecting signatures in the first part of December.
They need 6,550 signatures, or 20% of the city’s voters, to put the matter to a vote. But the group is aiming for 8,000 in case of invalid signatures.
Group member David Baker, who served the mayor with a notice of the recall attempt at the Nov. 2 City Council meeting, said that the group has a tough task ahead but that he is optimistic.
